Privacy Policy

Mindrise makes and sells one thing: a handmade wooden frame with an e-ink screen that shows a new quote each day. This page explains what personal information we collect when you visit this site or place an order, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.

Who we are

Mindrise is a small maker based in South Carolina, United States. We operate this website and are the party responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us at any time at team@hoop-o.com, or through the contact form on our home page.

What we collect

When you place an order

To take and fulfill an order we collect your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, phone number if you give one, and the details of what you bought and what you paid.

We never see your card number. Payments are handled by PayPal, whether you pay from a PayPal balance or with a card. Your card details are entered on PayPal’s systems and are never sent to, stored on, or accessible from this website. We receive only confirmation that the payment succeeded, along with the billing name and address PayPal passes back to us. PayPal’s own privacy statement governs what it does with your information.

When you write to us

If you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address and message you type, together with the IP address the message was sent from. The message is emailed to us and is also recorded in a spreadsheet we keep with Google, so that nothing gets lost between one inbox and another. If you email us directly instead, we hold that email in the ordinary way.

Automatically, as you browse

Our web host records standard server log information — IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested and when. We use it to keep the site running and to investigate abuse. The site also sets a small number of cookies, described in the next section.

Why we use it

• To fulfill your order. Taking payment, shipping the frame, emailing you a confirmation and a tracking number, and handling a return or a warranty claim afterwards.
• To answer you. Replying to a question you have sent us.
• To keep the site safe. Blocking automated form submissions and fraudulent orders. The contact form counts recent submissions per IP address for one hour so that a script cannot flood it.
• To meet our obligations. Keeping the sales and tax records the law requires us to keep.

We do not use your information to build a profile of you, and we do not send marketing email unless you have asked us to.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. This one uses two kinds, and no others:

• Cart and checkout cookies, set by WooCommerce when you add a frame to your cart. They are what allow the cart to still be there on the next page, and they are required for checkout to work. They expire when the session ends or shortly after.
• Order attribution cookies, which record how you arrived at the site — the referring page or campaign link — so we can tell which of our efforts actually reach people. They hold no name or address and are kept for up to six months.

We do not currently run advertising cookies, third-party analytics, or tracking pixels of any kind. If that ever changes, this page will be updated before the change takes effect. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; if you block the cart cookies, checkout will not work.

Who else sees your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have. We share it only with the services it takes to run a shop, and only as far as each one needs:

• PayPal — to take payment and to process refunds.
• Shipping carriers — your name and delivery address, so the frame can be delivered.
• Google — contact form messages are stored in a Google spreadsheet, as described above. Separately, the typefaces this site is set in are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser requests them from Google and Google sees your IP address in the process.
• Our web host and email provider — who store the site and deliver our order emails on our behalf.
• Anyone the law requires — if we are obliged to respond to a lawful request, or need to establish or defend a legal claim.

Where your information is held, and for how long

We are based in the United States and the services above store information in the United States. If you order from outside the US, your information is transferred there.

• Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, which is generally seven years.
• Contact form messages are kept for two years, so we can pick up a conversation where it left off.
• Abuse-prevention counts expire after one hour.
• Server logs are kept for the short period our host retains them.

Keeping it secure

The whole site is served over an encrypted connection, and payment details never touch our servers. No system is perfect, but the most sensitive thing about an online order — the card — is one we have deliberately arranged never to hold.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email team@hoop-o.com and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to keep order records that tax law obliges us to retain, and we will tell you if that applies.

If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request its deletion, to request a copy, and not to be treated differently for exercising any of those rights. You also have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell or share it, so there is nothing to opt out of.

If you live in the UK or the European Economic Area, you additionally have the right to object to processing, to restrict it, to receive your information in a portable form, and to complain to your national data protection authority. We rely on the performance of our contract with you to fulfill orders, on our legitimate interest in running the shop safely for the rest, and on our legal obligations for the records we must keep.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version appears here and the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes — a new service handling your information, a new kind of cookie — will be described rather than slipped in.
